Shari Puorto Band performing with Doug Woolverton,
Florida Tour kicking off 3/5/2020

Announcing, Shari Puorto Band (SPB) heading back to Florida for a 4-day tour led by vocalist/songwriter Shari Puorto and Grammy Nominee, Doug Woolverton. Catch this Roots/Rock/Blues Band at one or all of their upcoming shows.

Shari & Doug are also preparing for an upcoming album but it’s time to take a writing break and head back on the road. So, Florida here they come. You may be used to seeing Doug wail on trumpet, but with The Shari Puorto Band and this tour he brings it back to his roots on bass guitar.

The band is kicking off the tour on Thursday, 3/5 at Englewood’s on Dearborn, then on Friday, 3/6 it’s Buckingham Blues Bar in Fort Myers, Saturday 3/7 co-billing the Funky Biscuit with Billy Price and rounding off the tour headlining at Earl’s Hideaway on 3/8 in Sebastian, FLA.

Shari’s fanbase is growing rapidly because on-stage Shari's voice and personality has the ability to touch your soul. She musically connects with everyone who’s in the audience at every performance. Shari and her band’s energy draws you in and allows you to escape and enjoy being in the moment. They know how to put on a show and cater to each and every audience. Shari’s well-written original songs blended with just the right mix of obscure covers are also what makes this band and Shari so unique.

Their blend of blues, rock, funk, and even some Americana/country will turn your head as it does everyone. At first, it’s unexpected then they have you in their trance and there’s no turning back! Don’t just take it just from us, hear what others are saying:

Puorto, is a dynamo packing a huge vocal punch combined with a high energy stage performance. There is a running debate as to whether she's more similar to Janis Joplin or Etta James. My money is on a mashup of the two. She has the stage presence of Joplin, but with vocals more similar to James.” Scott Cunningham, Oregon Music News

Professor Johnny P's Juke Joint: "Let me say this as plainly as I can. I think that Shari Puorto could be the next big breakout singer. She’s got all the tools – a great voice, a top notch band, and superb writing skills. This latest album, Live At Bogies, shows that she can work a crowd extremely well and her song selection is quite moving.”

“Shari’s a road warrior touring non-stop across the USA and now, after some fine studio releases, those of us unlucky enough not to see her perform live can get a taste of the Shari Puorto live experience in full flight on a fantastic live album. Ms Puorto is a fabulous singer, right up there with Bonnie Bramlett in my pantheon of soulful blues singers and backed by a great band this record shows just how good she is.” Stuart Hamilton, Blues Matters! & The Rocker, UK

“Shari has always provided an honest and powerful musical experience that sticks at the very core of what music is all about. Great energy, original material, a true group performance, and a talent that reaches off the stage to touch the audience.” Joe Wagoner AKG/Harmon

Beyond the road, Shari will soon announce details of her next album and studio release. This release follows their recent award-winning live album, Live at Bogie’s*, and their last studio release, My Obsession. The album is slated for release in late 2020 or early 2021.  *Winner, Best Live Album, LA Music Critic, 2019.

“It’s my belief that women singers will be compared to her. Her chops are silky smooth, or gritty depending on the song; but they are always filled with soul. Her emotion is flat out in your face and there may be precious few that can do it better.” John Porter, Time for the Blues

Waterfront Blues Festival & NW tour, 2017

What can I say.....being a part of the 30th Anniversary of the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland Oregon was a for sure highlight! We had so much fun performing, and meeting new fans/friends and seeing old friends...it was an adventure I won't forget! I feel so blessed to be surrounded by such amazing band mates/musicians! I couldn't be more proud. And I am equally as blessed with some amazing and supportive friends with whom I leaned on a bit along the way to Portland, Vancouver, WA, Birkenfeld, Eugene, etc. They fed us, laughed with us, drove with us and open their homes and hearts....WOW. This entire tour made me take a few steps back and see how lucky I am!

On our Northwest tour we performed at the Torch Club in Sacramento, The Safeway Waterfront in Portland Oregon, The Birk in Birkkenfeld, OR, Billy's Blues Bar in Vancouver, WA, the Portland Spirit cruise, out to Reno, then back to Sacramento (Carmichael car/bike show), Visalia and ending our run in Bakersfield! What a run!

AND, Thank you to those of your who supported us and purchased some CD's, T-shirts, MY TANK tops! STILL very excited about those.....and told us how much you enjoyed our performance,. That means everything.... Until we see you again Northwest...keep on rockin! Shari Puorto and the boys....

Shari Puorto Band @ Doheny Blues Festival, 2015

I'm sorry to say that I'm bad at this writing thing! My apologies! Some thoughts as I sit here in beautiful Hermosa Beach with the faint sounds of the beach crashing about 2 blocks away....

Have you been to the Doheny Blues Festival in Dana Point, CA? If not, you should. What a great time! We performed at this event this past May and it was the highlight of Festivals so far. From the amazing CROWD to the staff.....we were treated well and received such a warm and wonderful response from everyone. We can only hope to perform at this event again in the coming year.

One thing I have to mention about the Blues industry and the Blues fans....I feel like it's my second family! Everyone is so supportive, and friendly and always willing to share a smile or nice comment. I love how the music brings people together. It's a wonderful part of my life!

Shari performs in New Haven, CT - Shari's coming Home!

New Haven Article

OK, sometimes you have shows that are EPIC.....well, the show I recently had in New Haven on 11/16/14 was one of them.
I couldn't have imagined the show to have gone better. I truly felt blessed and I know this sounds corny, but loved! Yes, I said it, Loved! I grew up in CT and have not had the opportunity till now to perform for my friends and family. The venue was packed with my childhood friends and family! I couldn't believe all the people who showed up. Most faces I recognized right away, but there were a few that made me take a step back to remember... I found it interesting how nervous I was just before I hit the stage. it's a whole different ball game when you are performing to people who know you (but know you not as a performer),  as opposed to strangers or fans you've made along the road. I think I have a bunch of new fans on the East Coast now! yeah!

I can't wait to do it again. We had such a great time and I can't Thank Mark Zaretsky, of the New Haven Register (and the Cobalt Rhythm Kings) for getting me on the Cover of the Entertainment section of the New Haven register. Great write-up!

The band kicked serious ass!
The band consisted of the amazing Andy Aledort on guitar and vocals, Dennis Metzler on bass, Shawn Murray on drums, Will Hitchcock on Keys, Jim Pino Jr on Sax and harmonica and me! It felt as though we picked up where we left off when we all hit the stage and started playing. Even though we never performed together before....Well, sort of. I did play one song with Andy about 5 years ago when I opened for Dickey Betts in California. Andy was and still is performing with Dickey Betts and Great Southern. What a great performer. Again, it was a truly memorable night and I can't wait to go back!

See you again soon East Coast!

Notes for Notes Benefit 2013

I found this blog that never got posted!!

HOLY COW! what a night we had last night at the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara, CA.
Seymour Duncan hosted a benefit concert for a non-profit organization called Notes for Notes.
We raised a lot of money for this incredible cause and had a ton of fun in the process.

I performed with Slash, Jimmy Vivino, Alan Parsons, Don Felder and Robert Randolph.
I'm not too sure which was more memorable.....singing background vocals with Don Felder on 'Hotel California' or singing the female vocals on "Shelter" with Slash and Jimmy......
Saying it was a memorable moment, is almost an understatement.
Thank you Jimmy and Seymour Duncan. I look forward to next year.....Rock on!

Notes for Notes Benefit 2014

Seriously? Another amazing show brought to you by, Seymour Duncan and Notes for Notes.

Notes for Notes® is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that designs, equips, and staffs after-school recording studios inside Boys & Girls Clubs offering youth the opportunity to explore, create, and record music for FREE.

I was honored to be a part of this amazing show (again) - last year  in 2013, I performed with Slash, Jimmy Vivino, Don Felder, & Alan Parsons. What an event.
But, this year we raised even more money for Notes for Notes....it's truly an amazing event. From the Staff at Notes for Notes, the Crew, the employees at Seymour Duncan, Seymour Duncan himself and the talent, it feels like a family event with all people pulling together for an amazing cause.

It was an amazing night performing with Jimmy Vivino, Joe Bonamassa, Robben Ford, and Rich Robinson (of Black Crowes). Singing on stage with each of these extremely talented musicians was an unforgettable night. I look forward to next year in 2015!

"Calzone Cases" As seen in Blues-E-News Gear issue, May 2014

Hello Gear heads! I thought I would take this opportunity to write a quickie in the gear guide issue about one reliable company to musicians and corporations alike. This company is called Calzone Cases. I learned about this company and it's President, Joe Calzone because he happened to stroll into one of my gigs in Hermosa Beach, CA about 6 years ago. Since Joe is first and foremost a musician, having played the drums for nearly 50 years, and has a great love for music (and good music if I may), we've been good friends ever since! Our bond for music and performing connected us over the years and we try to get together either over dinner or a song while on the West Coast. I have learned a lot about Joe's company and I'd like to share it with you. Here's to a hard-working man, who has the respect of his employees and, who is family.

The Calzone Case Co. has been manufacturing cases since the mid 70s. It's a family organization with one goal: To build the highest quality custom case in the world, at a fair price with on time delivery. I can vouch for this as I have a custom made microphone case and it was delivered in two days (perfect timing for my tour) and it's gorgeous!  As Calzone says, "No matter the application, be it for the local musician traveling to his gig or the tactical deployment of military equipment in a life-threatening environment, Calzone builds a product you can depend upon."

Drummer turned entrepreneur Joe Calzone founded the Calzone Case Company in Norwalk, Connecticut. Along with brother Vin, they embarked on a mission to build the highest quality cases in the music business. In January 1983 they relocated into a thirty thousand square foot building in Bridgeport, Connecticut. This location currently serves as the corporate headquarters as well as a manufacturing facility for Calzone Cases.

Calzone kept getting bigger and bigger because they kept buying everyone out! First in '85, they acquired a competitor based in Dallas, Texas. Second, in July, '90 Calzone acquired Excalibur Cases located in Burbank, California. Lastly, the big daddy purchase; they acquired the industry leader, Anvil Cases in May 1996.

Recently, Calzone put their money where they mouth is as they put their cases up to the test on National Geographic's show called, "Showdown of the Unbeatables".  Here's a little about the show:  Each week, the very best American companies do battle with their prize products.  Super strength bomb-proof glass faces off against the extremely powerful water jet.  A vacuum truck capable of pulling 360 cubic feet per minute tackles the 22,000 pound electro-lift magnet.  Fireproof fabric takes on a scorching hot, military torch.  Who will win the showdown? Be sure to tune in, "Showdown of the Unbeatables" featuring Calzone & Anvil Cases on the May 23rd episode.   Check your local listings for time and channel.

Well done Joe! Congratulations on keeping your vision strong and truthful. You do supply us with the highest quality custom cases in the world, at a fair price with on time delivery! We love ya and keep up the good work. See you at the show! Music and Love, Shari Puorto.

'Women in the Blues' as seen in Blues-E-News, 3/2014

As seen in the March issue of Blues-E-News
March, 2014
written by, Shari Puorto

When u think of The Blues and where it all began and with whom, who do you think of? Robert Johnson (born 1911)? Lightning Hopkins (born 1912)? Howlin Wolf (born 1910)? Muddy Waters (born 1913)? Well, what about the women who were also pioneers during this time and who continue to influence women today? What about Ma Rainey (born 1886), Bessie Smith (born 1894), Ethel Waters (born 1896), Memphis Minnie (born in 1897), Mammie Smith (the first black woman to record the blues), Big Mamma Thornton (born 1926); and all the other female performers. Instrumental in spreading the popularity of the blues, these women paved the way for women like me.
Can you image how difficult it was for them to make a mark in the early 1900's? Not only because of their race but they were women! Women working late hours in bars, playing guitar, singing strong, standing tall and proud for what drove them. They didn't ignore the passion deep within their souls, no matter what the public thought! Music moved them to do something women were not thought of doing at that time.  And eventually it moved everyone too! I am so proud of these women and proud to be giving them props as I write on 'woman's day'. They deserve our time and recognition.

I can speak from experience as I'm a singer/songwriter and performer in this genre. Now, I'm not a traditional blues artist; I would consider myself a Blues/ Rock artist. But nonetheless, I am absolutely influenced by these woman (and others). I learned a lot from these ladies by paying attention to their majestic phrasing to their guttural voices and how they softly they pulled me, then spit me out with a vengeance! Meanwhile always knowing when I listened, they weren’t afraid to take chances. I’m sure other female artists have been influenced by these ladies too. Like some of my favorite female musicians: Bonnie Raitt, Barbara Morrison, Bonnie Bramlett, Eva Cassidy, Pat Benetar, Chrissy Hein, Susan Tedeschi, and the many other influential women still doin it strong (so many, too many to list)!

However, one woman stands alone and one who has always influenced me from a little girl, is Etta James. From her floor pounding aggressive vocal execution to her captivating tone and strength! Wow. Blows me away every time I listen to her. I found myself very emotional the day she passed (and I never met her!). I studied her and listened to her sing, I could feel her passion, her drive, her pain, her beauty.

Let's pick up our glass and toast these early woman Blues artists who stood strong and helped us see our potential thru what they accomplished.

I hope to continue performing and letting my soul shine (as Greg Allman says), and I can only hope I influence and effect some other young singer that might see me perform. I hope my performance will allow them to feel something deep within their soul they never knew existed (as I felt when I listened to Etta James, and of course, Aretha Franklin). Well, that's my two cents. Thanks for reading and see you at a show! Shari Puorto, Los Angeles singer/songwriter/performer. www.BluesRockMusic.com
